How To Make A To Do List and Stick To It

In this video/article you’ll learn how to make a to do list and stick to it. I’ll teach you my simple, quick, & effective to do list routine to have a successful & productive day.

If you actually want this to change your life you need to watch the entire short video.

Grab a pad & pen because we’re going over WHY you need this, WHERE you’ll do this, WHEN & HOW you’ll do this, & then some extras to help you out on making this a long term strategy to help you get consistent results.

Why?

Why do you need to start doing this?

If you’re someone who is looking to upgrade their life in any aspect, fitness, nutrition, business, relationships, etc., this will directly help you do that.

It will help you realize your actionable short-term goals or daily goals that will get you to that long-term objective goal.

Manifesting is cool if you’re into that but if you’re like me & you like taking your life into your own hands & creating your own destiny this is for you & this will help you.

Where?

Where do you want to do this?

You have two choices.

Physical or Digital?

Digital:

  • Phone Notes

  • Word Document or Google Doc

  • Excel or Google Sheets

  • Other Software that offers this

Physical:

  • Note Pad / Book / Paper

I like using a notepad & pen where each sheet is one week. I start on Monday & end the sheet on Sunday.

However, this isn’t important. Choose whichever you feel pulled to and start there today.

When and How?

When and How do I do this to make my life better?

When: I recommend starting to do it the night before for the first week at least. That way, you never forget to do it in the morning. Or if you wake up late, you won’t have to skip it because it will already be done.

How do you do it? How do you actually write this out and structure it so that it’s simple, quick, & effective?

Step 1

It starts with the structure & abbreviation.

Start by writing the day, the date, & adjacent to that write “ W | L”.

That way you know the day/date and at the end of the day, you can circle whether you felt the day was a win or loss.

Underline those 3 things.

Step 2

Underneath that, you’ll draw a star.

This is for your #1 priority of the day.

It HAS to get done. If you don’t work on the star at least a little bit, your day is lost.

  • Some examples of this in my week are:

    • on Mondays, my star is responding to client check-ins.

    • Thursday my star is creating current clients new monthly programming

It shouldn’t be crazy & it’s your star, it’s your priority, your main priority of the day, no one else’s.

Underneath your star (aka: your #1 priority)

Step 3

You can put 4 bullets. Maybe that’s too many for you right now. Maybe that’s too little for you right now. If you’re watching this and you’re still watching at this point I’m going to assume you don’t already have a solid system in place and that’s why you’re watching this video. Which is a good thing, that’s an amazing thing that you want to create more success in your life and you’re are going out and seeking how to do that.

Always remember: start small because once you get it down you can build from there.

BUT… without a foundation, there’s nothing to build from.

These bullet points are not your main priority but you’d still like to get them done.

  • Some examples of this in my week are:

    • Every day I have 3 bullet points that are exactly the same: create 1 Instagram post & 1 TikTok post, go on a walk outside.

    • Every week I have 4 bullet points that are exactly the same: workout on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, & Friday.

These are still & must be action-based goals.

What do you mean, Ted?

Take my daily posting for example, those are action goals. creating 1 post on each of those platforms every day. So what’s a goal that wouldn’t help me there? The goal of “Help as many people as I can achieve their fitness goals & grow my social media”

Cool goal Ted but just having that as my goal won’t do anything. The goals you write down on this to do list need to be the actions you need to take to create your dream.

What if I Fail?

Trick question, you can’t fail.

Unless you quit. Forever.

There are several times in the beginning when I first started to make this a habit where I’d stop, or forget. For a day, a weekend, a week, and I remember stopping for 2 or 3 weeks before I was like wait a minute… I’m not getting the things done that I want to. I then started up again.

There will be days you forget. There might be days after doing this for months you don’t even need to do this because you have such a structured routine. But I urge you to do it anyway because it will pay off and you’ll never be thinking “what should I be doing right now?” Because it's right in front of you.

What to after that? Can/should I add to that? Goal Prepping?

Yes, you can add more. Should you? That’s up to you. You’re only going to be able to answer that for yourself. I’d recommend finding a balance but also there are benefits of being unbalanced for certain periods of time but if you try to do that all the time you’ll fail.

WTF is Goal Prepping?

So every Sunday, sit down with your to do list.

And go over how it went.

  • What did you crush?

  • What did you not crush?

  • What can you improve on?

  • What did you learn from what went wrong?

Even if you don’t do that every week you can write out all the “days / dates / W | L” for next week and even draw a star & bullet points under each day. This is what I do every Sunday. Sometimes I even know what I need to do that week so I’ll schedule it in per day in advance.

And remember just because this will skyrocket your productivity, awareness, & success… doesn’t mean it has to be all business.

Schedule in time to chill the fuck out each and every day.

Like GaryVee says:

“It’s not about how much sleep you get. It’s about what you do when you’re awake.”
